About Laura Wills

As mentioned on my home page, I have worked within the care sector for over 10 years. However my passion for support began well before that, starting as an assistant in my church's childrens groups from a young age. I continued to work with children until my early high school years.

Then at university I completed my first placement within a school for those with disabilities, and it completely changed the direction I wanted my career to go in. After such a positive experience, I went on to work in Alberta, Canada for a couple of years at a camp for children and adults with disabilities as a counsellor and truly fell in love with disability support work.

Fast forward to 2017, when I moved to England to be with my (now) husband. I began my career in Dorset working in residential disability care within a care company. However, I was longing to be back within an education setting and moved on to work at a SEN college as a teachers assistant where I was able to experience and learn how the SEN sector worked in a new country.

Finally, the opportunity arose to work within a day centre for adults with disabilities where I began as a support worker but progressed to become the Deputy Coordinator for the centre.  This has provided me with invaluable knowledge of how the administrative, legislative and funding world worked within care.
